Paying Up

One of the many things I tend to get into as a sports fan is doing the trash talk with fans of rival teams, especially when their team is playing my team that week.  Perhaps sometimes it can get me into a bit of trouble.

A few weeks ago, the Ravens were going up against the Vikings and there is a woman at my church who is a Vikings fan.  Of course we are giving one another hell about who is going to end up losing the game and the conversation became a bet.  If the Ravens won, she had to wear a Ravens jersey to church, if the Vikings won, then I had to wear a Vikings jersey to church.  Well unfortunately the Ravens lost (thank you Hauschka) so that meant I had to pay up on that bet.

Paying Up

Don't I just look thrilled?  Not only did I have to wear a Vikings jersey, but it had to be a Favre jersey.  I also paid up on this bet the weekend that the Ravens were going to play the Steelers, so it did make me worry that I'd be bringing the Ravens some bad luck.  However, the Ravens would go on to smack down the Steelers that evening, and I got to watch it all happen at The Bank :-D

So I guess that one could say that I should really watch my mouth and not make stupid bets like this, but really, it was all in good fun.  At least I am not like the guy who bet his TV on the outcome of the Redskins game!

This Ain't Right...

http://cjonline.com/stories/080208/bre_fire.shtml

So a fence and a garage nearly burned down at the Westboro Baptist Church (Home of everyone's favorite homophobe, Fred Phelps), and while it could have been accidental, it could have also been arson.

If it was arson, I don't agree with it. Just because you dislike a person or an organization (or maybe you think the building is fugly) does not give you the right to set their property on fire. What is to stop someone from setting a GLBT-friendly church on fire in retaliation for this?

The worst is seeing comments from folks that they're going to be celebrating that this happened. This is not something to celebrate people. How would you like it if they burned down your place?

I hope it wasn't arson...

Taylor Swift = Homophobe?

Has anyone heard Taylor Swift’s new single "Picture to Burn"? I happened to catch it on Surius Hits 1, the song has to do with a breakup gone bad, the way it is written is the typical crap that high school students pull on one another when there’s a breakup and drama behind it. However, my jaw dropped to the floor when I heard these lyrics:

Lyrics Page

So go and tell your friends that I’m obsessive and crazy
That’s fine I’ll tell mine you’re gay

I couldn’t believe that this was what I was hearing. I know that it may be a song and it’s all about the drama, but damn, that’s screwed up to sing that you’ll go around telling your friends that your ex-boyfriend is "gay" just because you two broke up. The worst part is that I have known people who have done that kind of thing, and in high school when you're in that awkward stage of trying to fit in and such, words like that can be very destructive.

If Taylor Swift is really condoning that kind of behavior, well then she’s several unprintable derogatory words in my book. You can say I'm being overly sensitive, but before you do, think about your own life, I'm sure somewhere someone spread a false rumor about you just because they were mad at you, and I bet you were pretty upset about it.

Trainwreck Syndrome...

...or why I need to stay off of the MySpace search function.

Every so often I like to do a school search on MySpace of my old high school and I skim through the results to see what the people I knew there are up to. I don't actually read the profiles (keeps me off of any trackers). I could claim that I do it just because I am curious about how folks are doing, but there's a bit of a darker side to it.

I do it just to prove that I am doing better than them.

Come on though, I can't be the only one who has done it or thought about doing it.

Thing is, I'm also basically right. Most of my classmates ended up staying in and around the town, or if they moved away it wasn't very far. I would say of the 80 profiles I can pull up, there's maybe 10 of us who actually live outside of Arizona. Of course it's also fun to see the ones that thought they were hot shit now basically stuck in a dead-end job and they don't look so very cute anymore. As for education, well it looks like many of them took the easy route and now it's come back to bite them in the ass.

There is one surprise...someone I thought was going to do quite well has apparently moved back to Arizona.

Of course, I also got some vindication as well...one girl who I worked with that would tease me that I was so gay...she just came out as a lesbian. Now I'm just waiting for some of the guys who won't answer the sexual orientation question on MySpace or have answered not sure to come out as well, the irony being that some of them were those who continually bashed me verbally.

I guess I truly do get the last laugh *muahahahahahahahahahahaha* Karma sure can be a bitch.

Conversations in the Apartment

*JH, upon seeing the Maxim sitting out turned to the page with this month's cover woman*

JH: What's this?

Me: It's Maxim, you know I have a sub to this.

JH: Well her ass is practically hanging out in this.

Me: Yeah, and?

JH: Is there something you need to tell me?

Me: Yeah, I might as well come clean with the truth, I'm coming out to you and admitting I am a straight man.

JH: You give really good head for a straight man.

Me: *cracks up laughing*
